The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (UPPWD) has proposed a first-of-its-kind North-South corridor project aimed at improving connectivity for 20 districts relying on link roads.
Spanning a total length of 2,340 km, the corridor will enhance transportation across the state. Six stretches have been approved by the Chief Minister's office, including the first corridor envisioend as a 262 km route from Ikauna to Prayagraj, connecting key areas like Ayodhya and Sultanpur. It will connect with the planned Shamli-Gorakhpur highway, Poorvanchal Expressway, and the proposed Vindhyan Expressway.
The second corridor, covering 220 km, connects Kushinagar, Deoria, Dohrighat, Gazipur, and Zamania, with the last two stretches operational. The PWD will propose the Kushinagar-Deoria and Deoria-Dohrighat segments. The third corridor spans 295 km from Pipri (Indo-Nepal border) to Prayagraj, intersecting major expressways. The fourth corridor covers 502 km from Lakhimpur to Banda, with some sections already four-lane. The fifth corridor, at 547 km, links Bareilly to Lalitpur via Agra and Jhansi. The sixth corridor, stretching 514 km from Mustafabad to Harpalpur, includes both operational and proposed segments.
The Munder-Farrukhabad-Orai stretch will be developed in two segments of 92 km and 125 km, linking the Ganga Expressway and Agra-Lucknow Expressway via Bundelkhand Expressway.
