It is learnt that, only five companies
- Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola, Nokia and ZTE have bid for Bharat Sanchar Nigam's 45.5 million line GSM tender. However 18 companies including Lucent,
Cisco, HP, Sun Microsystem, Nortel and Huawei had bought tender documents.
Technical bids of the five companies
was opened on 12 June 2006, while financial bids will be opened after evaluation
of the technical bids. Earlier, BSNL had extended the deadline for bids twice as
companies wanted more time to work out the details.
According to the criteria set by BSNL,
60 per cent of the order will go to the lowest bidder and 40 per cent to the
second lowest bidder.
