Ford Motor Company's Ski Village project in Manali in Kullu district has been
surrounded by uncertainties as the Himachal Pradesh Government has reportedly
decided to issue a show cause notice to the company.
Ford had proposed to invest $300 million in the project. So far, the company
has invested Rs 80 crore in the project.
According to the sources, the company is yet to submit the DPR to the state
government. Besides this, the Union Government has also rejected the environment
impact assessment report. After this, the company did not apply again. The
company has been asked to fulfil the requirement, but there has been no
response.
Moreover, the locals are also opposing the project on environmental grounds.
In April 2004, Ford Motor Company had evinced interest in setting up a
high-end ski resort project in the Himalayas. The state government entered into
an agreement with the Himalayan Ski Village Company in December 2005 for
establishing the project.
