On 27 December, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Char Dham highway project in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
The project, in which 900 km of national highway will be constructed, is estimated to cost Rs 12,000 crore
The all-weather road will improve connectivity between Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. The project will also boost tourism and improve the livelihood of people in the state.
The highway project includes constructing tunnels, bridges, viaducts and bypasses in the entire state, along with wayside amenities involving parking facilities, helipad for emergency evacuation, etc.
