The foundation stone for Vestas RRB India Pvt
Ltd's new wind mill blade manufacturing facility in Chennai was laid on 14
November 2005, at the hands of Mr Ulrik Federspiel, Danish Permanent Secretary
of State for Foreign Affairs.
The facility, being developed with an initial
investment of Rs.35 crore, is coming up at Poonamalle Bypass Road near Chennai.
The unit will begin production within six months with an initial capacity of 350
blade sets in the first year, moving up to 700 in the second.
Vestas RRB India plans to invest about Rs.65
crore on the second phase of the facility to produce higher capacity wind
turbines.
Denmark-based Vestas Wind Systems is the
technology provider for the facility. It is for the first that this company is
allowing its proprietary technology to be used outside Europe, it is learnt.
