Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) is expected to commence construction work of a mobile phone manufacturing unit near Bengaluru international airport in May, 2023. The electronic products manufacturer had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government in March, 2023.

The plant will come up on a 300-acre plot, making it Foxconn’s largest mobile manufacturing unit in the country. The plant is expected to aid the creation of 50,000 jobs over five years.

As a dedicated facility, which is expected to produce iPhones for Apple, the facility may attract several global electronics companies engaged in precision machinery, electric vehicle, integrated circuit design, and semiconductor segments to the state in future.

Foxconn will leverage the available local and social infrastructure, as well as the state government's support for skilling and talent sourcing in the region around the plot, where the development is planned.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led State High-Level Clearance Committee (SHLC) had cleared Foxconn’s proposal for the Rs 8,000-crore greenfield plant on 22 March, 2023.
