The Government of Chhattisgarh and GAIL (India) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the development of a greenfield gas-based fertiliser plant in the state.
The project aims to set up a urea manufacturing facility with a proposed capacity of 12.7 lakh tonne per annum. The plant will be strategically located along GAIL’s Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline corridor. GAIL will carry out detailed techno-economic feasibility studies for the project, and based on the results, a final investment decision will be made.
This collaboration highlights efforts to enhance the fertiliser sector in India, with an emphasis on utilising natural gas for production. The MoU represents a significant step towards meeting the growing demand for fertilisers while leveraging the country’s natural resources efficiently.
