Chennai-based GEA Energy System
(India) has won the balance of plant (BoP) order for APGenco's 500 MW Vijayawada
thermal power project.
According to information received from
senior APGenco officials, the appointment of GEA Energy was made in the first
week of May 2006. Confirming this development, GEA Energy officials added that
the order valued at Rs.579 crore involved all balance of plant work on the
electrical, mechanical and civil work package, except the turbine and boiler.
The order will be fulfilled within two years, implying that the project would be
commissioned by around June 2008.
APGenco had invited tenders for
awarding the BoP contract in November 2005. Bharat Heavy Electricals was
appointed in June 2005 as the main plant package contractor.
Incidentally, GEA has also bid for the
BoP contract for APGenco's 500 MW Bhoopalapally power project for which bids
were invited in November 2005. The final award is likely to take place within
the next few weeks, it is learnt.
