India's longest Ganga Expressway, spanning 594 km across Uttar Pradesh, is set to open next month, boosting east-west connectivity in the state.
The expressway, being developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), will enhance travel efficiency between 12 districts, including Meerut, Prayagraj, and Rae Bareli. A significant feature of the project is the FASTag-enabled toll system, which has successfully passed trial runs in districts like Badaun, ensuring smooth, contactless toll collection and reduced traffic congestion. "This project will provide better accessibility and faster travel for passengers," said UPEIDA officials.
Additionally, the expressway includes extensive infrastructure, such as 140 water bodies, seven road overbridges, 28 flyovers, and 946 culverts, ensuring seamless traffic flow. The project also integrates advanced AI-assisted monitoring technology developed in collaboration with ETH Zurich University, enabling real-time assessments of road quality and comfort during construction. This technology will be implemented on future projects like the Gorakhpur Link Expressway.
