Gensol Engineering has built a manufacturing plant at Chakan, Maharashtra, having a capacity for making 30,000 units per annum, and expects to commence production by February, 2024.
Last year, Gensol acquired EV startup, Strom Inc, which has built the platform for a 'reverse trike', a vehicle with two wheels in the front and one in the back. The vehicle, a two-seater, with a range of around 200 km, is expected to be priced around Rs six lakh.
The plant in Chakan is completely ready, and it is in the final stage of the homologation process for the vehicle. While the vehicle will be sold in the market as a passenger vehicle, it will also have a ride-hailing version that will be deployed on BluSmart.
The company has invested around Rs 150 crore in setting up the manufacturing unit. The plant and the car sales will be housed under Gensol Electric Vehicles (Gensol EV), a subsidiary of Gensol Engineering.
