Goa Shipyard (GSL) has chalked out plans for infrastructure modernisation
projects.
GSL is likely to invest about Rs 800 crore for the modernisation plan which
is likely to be implemented in four Phases. The company has sought additional
land from Goa Industrial Development Corporation for the proposed upgradation.
In case, GSL fails to get the land adjacent to its present shipyard in Vasco,
then it will have to move out to some of its facilities inshore.
Currently, the Phase I and II of the project are under an advanced stage of
implementation. The two phases with an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore are likely
to be ready by December 2010.
On completion of the Phase I and II, GSL is expected to have a modern
ship-lift facility for launching and docking of ships. Work on the remaining two
phases for creating infrastructure for Mine Counter Measure Vessel (MCMV)
project of the Indian Navy is expected to be finalised once the finalisation of
MCMV project is done by the Indian Navy.
