GoodEnough Energy has announced the commissioning of India’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh, with a capacity of seven Gigawatt-hours (GWh).
The company, which was founded in 2023 with an initial investment of 4.5 billion rupees (USD 49.4 million), plans to scale its operations and reach a target of 25 GWh of BESS within the next three years. This move is significant as Indian companies heavily rely on imports from China for battery storage systems used in clean energy projects.
India is aiming to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity by 2030 and will need an estimated 230 GWh of storage to stabilise its growing green grid. In 2023, the government approved 94 billion rupees in funding to support the manufacturing of BESS equipment, covering up to 40 percent of the capital costs. This marks a key step in the country's push towards energy independence and green energy development.
