The state government of Maharashtra has approved the town planning scheme to implement a 129 km ring road project worth Rs 17,412 crore around Pune city.
The project is to be developed by Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA). The project has been planned in two phases. The first will have a four lane road with two lanes. Both phases will be completed in the next seven years.
The PMRDA will be able to make available 5,000 ha of land for housing for the weaker sections and will be able to construct two lakh houses in the PMRDA. The project will come up on 1,430 ha of land and land from 58 villages of four talukas of Haveli, Maval, Mulshi and Khed.
The first phase of the project will involve work on four lanes including two lanes. The work will also involve construction of a 3.75 km tunnel, six bridges, street lights, and construction of roads in the townships.
The second phase will include work on an eight lane road including four lanes, along with cycle tracks on both sides, footpaths, eight flyovers, three railway flyovers, and internal roads of townships.
