The government of Kenya has announced plans to construct a dam in Eldoret town entailing an investment of USD 13 million. The dam will help in curbing water shortages currently experienced in the area.
The Kipkarren Dam Water Supply project will be constructed in Kapseret Constituency in Uasin Gishu County. It is being funded by the national government in conjunction with the African Development Bank (ADB). The project is being implemented by the Rift Valley Water Works Agency on behalf of the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2021. Upon completion, the water supply facility will provide an additional 23,000 cu mtr of water daily, benefiting about 50,000 residents within Eldoret town.
Around 90 percent of the beneficiaries will come from Langas ward while 60 percent and 70 percent of residents in Kapseret and Kipkenyo Wards will access the water supplied from the dam.
