The government intends to start work on three river inter-linking projects and construct two dams in the next three months.
The proposed projects will entail an investment of around Rs 40,000 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the projects.
The government will use the latest technology in Ken-Betwa, Par-Tapi-Narmada and Damanganga-Pinjal projects. The projects will tackle flood and drought situations.
In addition, the government will commence work on Pancheshwar and North Koel dams.
The Ken-Betwa project will help irrigate around 15 lakh acre. The project will increase the total area to be irrigated from 25 lakh to 30 lakh acre.
The Par-Tapi-Narmada and Damanganga-Pinjal projects will meet the water needs of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The estimated cost of the projects is Rs 16,000 crore.
