The Gujarat and Maharashtra Government on 4 May 2010 have signed an MoU with
the Union Government to prepare project reports to inter-link several rivers in
their region.
The tripartite MoU has been culmination of the joint efforts of the Union
Government and the two respective state governments to initiate the process of
preparation of DPR for the proposed project. The DPR and feasibility report is
likely to be ready by 2011.
The proposed Damanganga-Pinjal and Par-Tapi-Narmada links are two Inter Basin
Water Transfer links concerning Gujarat and Maharashtra. While the
Damanganga-Pinjal link mainly benefits Maharashtra, the Par-Tapi-Narmada link
will mainly benefit the regions in Gujarat.
The agreement is expected to help in irrigating around 17,500 million ha of
agricultural land in Gujarat.
