The Gujarat government has sanctioned Rs 2,609 crore for the resurfacing and allied works of Panchayat managed roads across the state, aiming to strengthen the rural road network and ensure all-weather connectivity.
Under the plan, a total of 1,258 roads covering 4,196 km will be upgraded. In north Gujarat, 487 roads spanning 1,609 km will be improved, while south Gujarat will see 499 roads over 1,528 km strengthened. Saurashtra will have 272 roads covering 1,059 km upgraded. The move responds to demands from local representatives and rural communities seeking durable, yearround roads.
Officials stated that the initiative will enhance connectivity within villages, ease transportation to nearby towns and cities, and support economic activities. Improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate mobility, promote trade, and contribute to overall development in Gujarat’s hinterland. The government emphasised that strengthening rural roads is a key step in boosting socio-economic growth and ensuring sustainable access for residents across the state, enhancing both convenience and economic opportunities.
