The Gujarat Government proposes to build an over-the-sea dam in the northern
part of the Gulf of Khambat (Cambay). The dam project is likely to entail a cost
of Rs 50,000 crore.
The 35-km dam named Kalpasar Dam Alignment is likely to lead to a water
reservoir. It will also have a road and rail overbridge, which will reduce the
distance between Bhavnagar and Surat by 200 km.
While the main dam will help generate tidal power, the reservoir is expected
to supply water for drinking and agricultural purposes.
