Assam is poised to witness a significant transformation in its hospitality and tourism landscape, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing the development of 11 five-star hotels in Guwahati.
Central to this initiative are two Marriott properties set to rise on 76 bighas of land near the airport, under a Rs 500 crore investment by Junali Construction. This project was formalised during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, aimed at fostering a pro-investment climate in the state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 12 May, 2025 performed the Bhoomi Poojan for two upcoming hotels, 'Marriott Resort & Spa' and 'Fairfield by Marriott', at Borjhar in Guwahati.
The Bhoomi Poojan for the Guwahati Marriott Resort and Spa and Fairfield by Marriott has marked the commencement of construction. These properties will offer 196 and 288 rooms respectively, alongside expansive ballrooms, open lawns, and both underground and open parking facilities. The estimated completion window ranges from 36 to 48 months. The CM emphasised the broader socio-economic impact of these ventures, suggesting that such infrastructure will catalyse employment, tourism growth, and regional GDP enhancement. The proximity of these hotels to key tourist destinations such as Kaziranga, Manas, and Kamakhya is expected to extend visitor stays and boost local spending.
Adding further momentum to Assam’s investment narrative, Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, has pledged Rs 50,000 crore over the next five years and plans to develop a seven-star Oberoi hotel in the state.
