HPCL-Mittal Energy (HMEL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to jointly advance research and development initiatives in the energy sector.
The collaboration focuses on sustainable technologies and industrial applications, forming part of HMEL’s broader commitment to innovation-driven energy solutions. The agreement sets the stage for cooperative efforts in translational research across various domains, including process innovations, advanced materials, AI-enabled energy systems, and sustainable energy technologies.
The partnership is intended to operate in a consortium model, aiming to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world implementation. It emphasizes scalable technologies with high commercial viability. HMEL has highlighted that it holds several patents and maintains one of the highest implementation ratios of patented technologies among companies in the Indian oil sector.
The MoU was formalised at HMEL’s corporate office in Noida, where Prabh Das, Managing Director & CEO of HMEL, welcomed a delegation from IIT Kanpur that included Prof. Raja Angamuthu, Associate Dean of Research & Development, and Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
