Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is set to launch the distribution of piped natural gas (PNG) connections in the Siliguri sub-division by March 2026, targeting nearly 3,000 households in the first phase.
The rollout will begin from Bagdogra and later extend to Shivmandir and Atharokhai in the northwest of the city. The company has already developed infrastructure to provide approx. 2,500 domestic PNG connections in the outskirts of Jalpaiguri, including Patkata Colony, and plans to expand to surrounding panchayats. In addition to domestic supply, HPCL will also provide compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicles across Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and North Dinajpur districts. The company is investing around Rs 1,700 crore to develop natural gas infrastructure in these regions, which is expected to reduce emissions and support ecological balance.
The pipeline network is currently under development, with nearly 50 km of pipelines planned, and laying work in civic areas has been completed to facilitate timely provision of household gas connections.
