Harman International Industries, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Company, will expand its automotive electronics manufacturing plant at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra.
The company will make an investment of Rs 350 crore (USD 50 million) towards expansion.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadvanis inaugurated Phase-II of the plant. The Phase-II expansion of the unit will triple the company’s production capacity by the year 2021.The plant manufactures automotive infotainment units for India's domestic and global automotive customers.
The production of Digital Cockpit Units (DCU) and Telematics Control Units (TCU) from the Chakan plant will increase to over 25,00,000 units annually from 2,00,000 units currently in the next three years.
The company will also double the employment to around 800 employees.
The company will install four new world-class SMT production/assembly lines, scaling from the existing two to six lines to meet the rising demands for innovative connected car solutions globally.
