Haryana government has been allotted 20 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity under the Centre’s viability gap funding (VGF) Scheme, with a target to commission the project by July 2027.
The state’s utility, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVNL), has been designated as the BESS implementing agency. Haryana will receive VGF support of Rs. 27 lakh per MWh or 30 percent of the capital cost, whichever is lower. The project will be split between DHBVNL and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVNL), with each developing 10 MWh. The BESS will be distributed across four 33kV substations: Jaglan, Khira, Siwani, and Bhiwani. This initiative is essential to store cheap power during off-peak hours and supply it during peak demand. It will help in integrating renewable energy, which tends to be low during peak hours, thereby ensuring reliable, cost-effective power.
Prostarm Info Systems is also setting up a BESS manufacturing facility in Haryana, due to be completed by March 2026.
