Hero MotoCorp is looking forward to setting up its manufacturing unit in India, for which the company is scouting for a site in the south region of the country.
The proposed plant, with 1.5 - 2 million units per annum capacity, will be utilised to service the market in the south region. On completion of the plant, the company's overall capacity will reach around 12 million units per annum.
The proposed unit will be the sixth manufacturing facility of the company. At present, Hero MotoCorp has three manufacturing facilities -- at Gurgaon and Daruhera in Haryana; and at Haridwar in Uttarakhand -- with a total capacity of 6.9 million units per annum. The company is all set to commission its fourth facility at Neemrana in Rajasthan, with an installed capacity of over 7.65 million units, at a cost of Rs 400 crore.
It is also in the process of constructing its fifth manufacturing unit in Halol, Gujarat. The project, with a capacity of 1.8 million units per annum, will entail an investment of Rs 1,100 crore. The unit is expected to go on-stream by 2015-16.
Besides, the company is also in the process of setting up a manufacturing unit in Colombia to cater to Latin American markets.
