Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a substantial investment of Rs 2,400 crore to boost tourism infrastructure in the state, aiming to establish Himachal as the “tourism capital of the country.” The plan includes the development of new tourist destinations and the construction of 200 hotels ranging from three-star to seven-star categories, alongside wellness centres and other supporting infrastructure.
Unveiling a series of projects during his address in Bilaspur, the CM said, “The government is currently developing cruise, houseboat, jet ski, motorboat, and water scooter services at Gobind Sagar Lake and other water bodies."
The initiatives are expected to not only increase tourist footfall but also generate employment opportunities for local youth. To reinforce this tourism-driven development, several other infrastructure projects were launched in Bilaspur. These include a 110 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, a livelihood centre, and four space labs. The introduction of water-based adventure activities in areas like Gobind Sagar Lake would significantly enhance the state's appeal, particularly for adventure enthusiasts.
The facilities at Shree Naina Devi Temple will be upgraded with a Rs 100 crore investment, while Dharamshala is set to get a convention centre worth Rs 200 crore. The state government’s broader vision includes developing a comprehensive tourism ecosystem combining religious, eco, water, health and wellness, and nature-based tourism.
