Hitachi Energy has inaugurated a new high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and power quality factory in Chennai on 9 February 2023. The facility will provide integration of renewables and electrical grid stability, and thus contribute to India's net-zero vision.

The new facility will manufacture advanced power electronics for HVDC Light, HVDC Classic, and STATCOM, powered by its own technology control and protection system and support enhanced production capacity. It will serve high-voltage transmission projects in India as well as exports to support global HVDC installations.

It is the latest HVDC factory built and also ranks as the world's second testing lab dedicated to power quality control solutions.

The company further plans to accelerate investments in grid infrastructure and modern set-up to expand its capability in energy systems.
