Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) intends to start a new manufacturing line at its Gujarat factory in the early part of the next financial year. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the launch of the new Shine 100 cc model.
The Japanese two-wheeler maker is also firming up plans to foray into the electric vehicles (EVs) segment, for which it may consider alliances to grow in the zero-emission space. Its first EV is slated to be launched within the next year itself.
The company's unit has a capacity of 5.2 million units, and the third manufacturing line is likely to add another six lakh units per annum, taking up the capacity to 5.8 million.
On the electrification front, HMSI is working on both fixed-battery and swappable battery alternatives. With an undisputed presence in the south and western parts of India, it further aims to explore North and Central India markets.
