Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art bulk petroleum storage facility in Ladakh, designed to bolster fuel security and logistics in high-altitude and forward areas.
This facility, developed with the support of the Indian Army, aims to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability in harsh conditions, especially during the winter months. IOCL Chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney highlighted the significance of the project, noting that it will strengthen energy security and support advanced winter stocking (AWS) operations in the region. Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister, also praised the facility’s engineering, emphasising that it is built to withstand extreme terrain and climatic conditions. The storage units are mostly underground and designed for enhanced safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
This facility will not only support the Indian Army’s operations but also meet the energy needs of the local population in one of the most challenging terrains in the world. IOCL has had a strong presence in Ladakh since the 1970s, with several key energy infrastructures already in operation.
