Indian Petrochemicals Corporation
(IPCL), now a part of the Reliance Group, has plans to double its
capacity for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to 3 million tonnes, at its
Gandhar complex in Gujarat. IPCL currently has an installed
capacity of 1.5 million tonnes.
The engineering and technical study for the expansion has been
completed. The project, estimated to entail an investment of
Rs.250 crore, is scheduled for completion within 18 to 24 months.
IPCL is also exploring the options of increasing the capacity of
polyethylene (PE) from 4 lakh tonnes to 8 lakh tonnes, also at
Gandhar complex. The project is currently on hold due to shortage
of the main feedstock, liquefied natural gas (LNG). The company
is considering sourcing LNG from Reliance Industries' fields in
the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin or through imports.
