The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has committed an investment of over Rs 150 crore to strengthen inland waterways in Andhra Pradesh.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) and IWAI during the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 event in Mumbai. The initiative will introduce a vessel traffic management system (VTMS) and improve navigational aids. The GoAP will allocate land for establishing onshore facilities aimed at enhancing river cruise tourism.

This move is expected to reduce freight transportation costs and boost tourism in the state. Officials, including Transport Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, highlighted the project’s potential to improve infrastructure and logistics in the region.
