Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has accorded in-principle approval for a new road route connecting Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has proposed to connect Raipur to Vizianagram-Vishakhapatnam through a new roadway via Kurud to Nagri (Sihawa) area of Chhattisgarh and Nabarangpur of Odisha, and declare it a national highway.
Formalities related to forest clearance and others have to be completed since a part of the proposed road from Kurud passes through forest land.
The route will shorten the distance between Raipur and Visakhapatnam by 200 km.
Around 164 km of the road falls under Chhattisgarh. Of this, 132 km will be developed as two lane and the remaining as single lane.
