Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India is pursuing a low-carbon growth strategy, targeting a rise in natural gas contribution to 15 percent of the energy mix by 2030, up from the current six percent.
Highlighting industrial advancements, he noted syngas and coal gasification at Talcher and the operation of 113 compressed biogas (CBG) plants, with 78 more planned. India will expand its gas pipeline network from 25,429 km to 33,475 km, while LNG capacity will grow from 52.7 MTPA to 66.7 MTPA. Approx. 1.52 crore households are already connected with piped natural gas, and CNG stations have increased to over 8,150 nationwide.
The government’s renewable energy push includes 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030, four billion LED bulbs under the UJALA scheme, 10.33 crore LPG connections via Ujjwala Yojana, and a five million tonne green hydrogen target. GST cuts on solar and wind equipment are expected to reduce renewable project costs by five percent.
