India will set up 12 more nuclear power stations to improve the power situation. The move will also ensure that there is free flow of uninterrupted power supply for both industries and residential usage.
The 11th International Forum Atomexpo 2019 was officially opened in Sochi, Russia, with the motto of 'Nuclear for a better life'.
The event saw participation of over 3,600 delegates from 74 countries. The new countries represented at the forum were Qatar, Bahrain, and Nicaragua.
The AtomExpo provided a platform for discussion of the application of nuclear technologies opening up new opportunities in the field of medicine, creation of unique materials, space exploration, and exploration of the Arctic region.
The first stage of India's indigenous nuclear power programme has attained maturity with 18 operating Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs).
Alongside, plans are afoot for construction of two light water reactors.
