India’s first steel pipeline-integrated compressed biogas (CBG) plant has been commissioned in Batala, Gurdaspur, Punjab, marking a major milestone in clean energy infrastructure.
Developed by CEID Consultants and Engineering., the project connects MEPL Bio-energy’s CBG output directly into the city gas distribution (CGD) network of Gujarat Gas, eliminating the need for cascade transport and significantly reducing logistics costs. Previously reliant on MDPE pipelines, the upgraded integration with steel pipelines elevates operational efficiency and sets a new industry standard.
The plant enables the direct supply of clean Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to a wide range of consumers—residential, commercial, and industrial, while also serving CNG filling stations in the region. This model will now serve as a blueprint for future CBG projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and technical best practices. With more MEPL plants in the pipeline, this pioneering facility reinforces India’s commitment to green energy, sustainability, and self-reliance in alternative fuels.
