India’s first titanium project, developed by Saraf Group in Ganjam district, Odisha, has commenced its test production.
One of the four furnaces of the titanium project started its trial on 2 November, 2016.
The titanium plant will be ready for inauguration in the next few months and is expected to generate 36,000 tonne of titanium slag and 20,000 tonne of pig iron per year.
Saraf group invested Rs 350 crore in the first phase of the project which will generate titanium slag. Its raw material, ilmenite will be purchased from Indian Rare Earths (IREL), of Odisha Sands Complex (OSCOM), Ganjam district of Odisha, along with a private company which has its unit in Srikakulam.
The company plans to expand its titanium project and produce titanium metal.
To execute the project, the company acquired 200 acre of private land and 34 acre of government land.
