India's power sector has an investment potential of approx. half a trillion dollars (Rs 45 lakh crore) over the next seven years, according to Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal.
Speaking ahead of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, Secretary Agarwal highlighted the sector's rapid growth, with the country’s electricity transmission network set to soon cross five lakh circuit kilometers (ckm), having already achieved 4.97 lakh ckm. He emphasised India’s significant investment opportunities in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. The Summit, set for 19-22 March, 2026, in New Delhi, will bring together global leaders and stakeholders from the power sector.
Secretary Agarwal added that India successfully met a 250 GW peak demand in 2024, underscoring the country's growing energy infrastructure and its capacity to handle future energy needs.
