Union Shipping Secretary Vijay Kumar visited the Chennai Port Authority on January 27, to review operations and inaugurate infrastructure projects worth Rs 54.27 crore.
During his visit, he inaugurated four key initiatives, including the Andaman and Nicobar Passenger Terminal, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 29.8 crore to enhance coastal and island connectivity. Kumar also unveiled an indigenous vessel traffic monitoring system (VTMS) worth Rs 22.58 crore to improve vessel tracking and maritime safety. Additionally, navigational aids and channel buoys were commissioned at a cost of Rs 0.39 crore, and the foundation stone was laid for the renovation of Port Gate 2, estimated at Rs 1.5 crore.
These projects are aimed at improving passenger handling, streamlining vessel movement, strengthening navigational safety, and upgrading port infrastructure. They are expected to significantly enhance the overall operational efficiency of the Chennai Port.
