The Andhra Pradesh Government has speeded up work on all its ongoing lift
irrigation projects to bring a large track of arid land in its Telangana region
under irrigation.
The work on the
Jawahar Lift Irrigation scheme near Muchonipalli village under the
Priyadarshini Jurala Irrigation Project is underway and is likely to be
completed by March 2012. Once complete, it will facilitate irrigation of 20 lakh
acre of arid land in Mahabubnagar and Kurnool districts. The project is expected
to cost of Rs 1,428 crore and Rs 1,037 crore has been spent till date.
The other projects under process are the Sanganbanda Bridge-cum-Barrage, the
Srisailam Left Bank Irrigation Project, the Telugu-Ganga Project, Pulichintala
Lift Irrigation Project, Veligonda Lift Irrigation Project, Handri Lift
Irrigation Project, Galeru Lift Irrigation Project, Bhima Lift Irrigation
Project, and Sri Gururaghavendra Lift Irrigation Project.
