Jindal Power (JPL), a subsidiary of Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL), is likely
to shift the site of its proposed 1,320 MW power plant at Boinda in Angul
district of Orissa.
According to sources, the decision has come in after JPL learnt that a
substantial chunk of the earmarked land at Boinda came under the command area of
an upcoming irrigation project.
The company has sought permission from the Department of Energy, Orissa, to
relocate the project to Badakerejang village, near JSPL's upcoming steel plant
at Nisha, from the originally selected site at Boinda. JPL needs about 2,000
acre at the new location for the power plant. Out of this, it has already
acquired 1,000 acre comprising both private and government land. The plant is
likely to be operationalised by 2013.
In 2009, JPL had signed an MoU with the state government for setting up of
the proposed power plant.
