Jindal Steel & Power has planned to set up a
5 million tpa integrated steel plant in Jharkhand. The proposed plant, entailing
an investment of Rs.10,500 crore, will come up in two phases.
In Phase I, capacity of 2 million tpa would be
created followed by Phase II where the remaining 3 million tpa will be
constructed. It is learnt that JSPL is on the verge of purchasing 3,000 acres of
land at Kandra for the proposed plant. Further details are awaited.
This is the second major investment proposal for
a steel project in Jharkhand, in recent months. In May 2005, the LN Mittal Group
had proposed to set up a 5 million tpa integrated steel plant in the state. The
group has reportedly shortlisted three locations for the project.
