JSW Steel has been declared as a preferred bidder for three coal mines in Chattisgarh & Jharkhand, offered under the sixth tranche, 15th tranche and 16th tranche of auction conducted by the Ministry of Coal.
These are, namely, Sitanala coking coal block and Parbatpur Central coking coal block in Jharia coalfield in Jharkhand, and Banai & Bhalumuda coal block in Mand-Raigarh coalfield in Chattisgarh.
The Sitanala and Parbatpur blocks have a geological reserve of 108.85 million tonne, and 235.718 million tonne respectively. The coal reserve at Banai & Bhalumuda coal block is estimated to be 1376.057 million tonne.
Further steps include obtaining a letter of intent (LoI), securing all statutory clearances and executing the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement (CMDPA), prior to commencement of mining operations.
