A trade delegation from Japan has evinced interest in Kalpasar project in Gujarat.
The Rs 30,000-crore Kalpasar project proposes to build a dam on the Gulf of Khambat in Gujarat and establish a huge reservoir of fresh water. Narmada & Water Resources Department had discussions with the Japanese delegation. In case the talks are successful then the project could be a JV with them.
The re-designed dam is proposed to be built from Kalatalav in Bhavnagar district in Saurashtra to Aladar in Bharuch district in south Gujarat, which is 15-km north of the place from where the dam was earlier envisaged--from Ghogha in Bhavnagar to Hansot in Bharuch. The project proposes construction of a 30-km-long dam on Gulf of Khambat, leading to creation of 2,000 square km fresh water reservoir in the region.
