Jindal Saw (JSL) plans to set up a 3
lakh tpa steel manufacturing plant along with a blast furnace and coke oven at
Mundra in Kachchh district of Gujarat, with an investment of Rs.1,000 crore. The
proposed plant, which is likely to get commissioned in the next 18 months, will
help the company fulfill its steel requirements.
The proposed plant will serve as a raw
material source for the company's seamless pipe making facility located in the
same region. The project will be entirely funded through internal accruals.
The company will invest additional
Rs.500 crore in setting up a blast furnace with a capacity of 3 lakh tpa of hot
metal and a coke oven with 2 lakh tpa capacity. JSL has placed orders for
equipment and hopes to start construction work by December 2008.
JSL recently increased capacity of its
seamless pipes plant from the present 80,000 tpa to 2.5 lakh tpa at Mundra with
an investment of Rs.400 crore. For this facility, the company has been sourcing
raw material from domestic and overseas steel producers.
