Jindal Stainless, via its subsidiary Jindal Stainless Steelway, has inaugurated its first stainless steel fabrication unit at Washivali, Patalganga near Mumbai with an investment of Rs 125 crore.
Spanning four lakh sq. ft., the facility focuses on fabricating critical bridge components and various girders, targeting the growing infrastructure demand. The unit’s annual capacity is projected to rise from 4,000 tonne this year to 18,000 tonne by FY27. The facility aims to deliver sustainable, high-quality bridge structures using stainless steel, which offers over 100 years of lifespan and minimal maintenance compared to carbon steel.
This strategic move also addresses the skilled fabricator gap through a centre of excellence (CoE) for skill development. The project is expected to create over 250 direct employment and indirectly support more than 150 families. Future plans include expanding fabrication units to other regions and introducing solar power for the Mumbai plant.
