The Karnataka Government on 26 February 2011 allotted land to a Defence
Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) project in the state.
The state government has allotted 4,290 acre to the Aeronautical Development
Establishment (ADE) for an aeronautical test range project at Chitradurga
district. The project is estimated to cost about Rs 1,300 crore.
The project aims to build necessary infrastructure for testing and evaluating
unmanned and manned aircraft being undertaken by aeronautic cluster labs in DRDO.
The project has been planned and conceived by ADE, Bengaluru, in collaboration
with other DRDO labs.
