Tamil Nadu is progressing towards the development of a new airport near Hosur, with plans to acquire nearly 3,000 acres of land across 12 villages in Krishnagiri district.
The proposed airport aims to alleviate aviation pressure in the Bengaluru region and is expected to handle around three crore passengers annually once operational. Approx.y 800 acres of the land required is owned by the state government, with the remaining 2,134 acres privately owned. The preferred location for the airport is the Hosur–Berigai–Bagalur–Shoolagiri quadrilateral, which offers proximity to industrial clusters and connectivity to the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road. The Krishnagiri district administration’s Land Development Plan estimates a total of 2,979 acres will need to be acquired.
The plan is awaiting clearance from the Commissioner of Land Administration. Once approved, the land acquisition process will begin, with hopes of completing it by February, depending on approval timelines. “We hope to complete the process by February, but it depends on how fast we get the approvals,” an official said.
