The government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Railways have inked an MoU for setting up of a rail coach factory in Kolar.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 1,460 crore, will come up over 1,100 acre. The state government will provide the required land for the project free of cost. Both, the Ministry of Railways and the state government have committed to share the project cost. The Railway's Rail Coach Factory or an entity nominated, will implement the project.
Of the 1,100 acre, the state government already has 550 acre and will soon acquire the remaining 550 acre. Initially, the manufacturing facility will have a capacity to produce 500 coaches annually and will step up production to another 500 coaches later.
