To implement Phase-3 of the Upper Krishna Project (UKP), including raising the Almatti dam height from 519.6 mtrs. to 524.256 mtrs., the Karnataka government has decided to acquire 75,563 acres of land submerged in backwaters.
The acquisition will be done in a single phase either through direct purchase or based on consent award rates. As per the government order (GO), irrigated land will be compensated at Rs 40 lakh per acre and dry land at Rs 30 lakh. For land acquired for canals, the rates will be Rs 30 lakh for irrigated and Rs 25 lakh for dry land. The Revenue and Law Departments will establish a “Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority” under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
Final guidelines for compensation and acquisition will be issued following discussions between the Water Resources and Revenue Departments, ensuring fair implementation in line with the law.
