Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has firmly assured that the long-delayed Katraj-Kondhwa bypass road will be completed by June 2026.
Speaking at a real estate conclave on September 11, alongside Pune District Collector Jeetendra Dudi, Commissioner Ram emphasized that the delay stemmed from administrative indecision rather than impossibility. A joint meeting between the Collector and PMC officials has led to an integrated and systematic execution plan. While Rs 270 crore has been sanctioned for land acquisition, only Rs 46,456 sq. ft. of the required 94.46 lakh sq. ft. has been acquired so far.
To address this, Rs 220 crore has been reallocated from various departments. The original plan of an 84-mtrs.-wide road has been scaled down to 50 mtrs. to reduce costs and expedite work. Construction has begun where land is available, including a grade separator for traffic flow. The PMC will also install 300 mm rainwater drainage lines at flood-prone areas like Rajas Society and near SBI to prevent waterlogging during monsoons.
