Western Railway's Vadodara Division has achieved a significant safety milestone by successfully commissioning the Kavach automatic train protection system on the Bajwa-Ahmedabad route.
This marks the first operational use of the Kavach system in Western Railway. The advanced safety technology has been activated on the 96-km section, which covers 17 stations, and is designed to prevent accidents due to signal violations and automatically control train speeds. The Kavach system is equipped with several key features, including automatic speed control, accident prevention for signal passed at danger (SPAD), and protection against head-on and rear-end collisions. It also offers an SOS emergency facility and ensures automatic whistling at level crossings.
The system's infrastructure includes 23 communication towers, 20 Kavach buildings, and 192 km of optical fiber cables for real-time communication and precise train tracking. The system was inaugurated with the first Kavach-equipped run of the Sankalp Fast Passenger train.
